Ohau Seal Colony - Kaikoura

The seal colony is located 25 kms north of Kaikoura, right ON Hwy1 with the main carpark at Half Moon Bay. You can't miss it. Ohua is the most accesible Seal Colony in all of New Zealand. The seals are litterally right next to the road! Another 3kms north of the colony you will find Paparoa Point and the entrance to the Ohau Waterfall Track. This is another great Seal Colony location that is often missed by travellers!

At the right time of year (late Jan-Feb), a short walk up the Ohua track will take you to the waterfall where TONS of fur seal pups play in the water under the watchful eye of the very large seal mums. You can get right up close to the seals and can easily get caught up watching the pups for hours! They are VERY entertaining and cute! Be very careful when making you're way along the track though, as the seals lounging in the bush look a lot like big rocks!
