Moeraki Boulders

Hundreds of spherical boulders are strewn across Koekohe beach in Moeraki. These unusual boulders were formed 65 million years ago in a similar way to the way pearls are formed. For the best view check them out at low tide! If you're lucky you'll also catch a glimpse of the yellow eyed penguins and seals that occupy the same beach.

Colossal Squid

New Zealand has the  has the only Colossal Squid on display in the world. It's humongous, nearly 1000 pounds (450 kilograms), has massive tentacle hooks that rotate, eyes the size of soccer balls, 3 hearts and a beak! Terrifying.

Colossal Squid Exhibition is on at Te Papa Museum in Wellington until the end of this year.
